KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has resumed 18-hour operations from today.

The airport had previously reduced its operational hours to 10 hours for five months due to runway upgrading works. According to TIA General Manager Jagannath Niroula, the airport will now remain open from 6:00 am to 12:00 midnight under the revised schedule.

Niroula stated that the construction of a linkway from the taxiway to the runway has been completed. However, work on the parallel taxiway remains ongoing.

Under the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project, overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), construction of the South-West Parallel Taxiway, the International Apron towards the northeast, and the Hangar Apron towards the east is in progress.

The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 15 billion, has achieved 90% completion. However, the remaining works are expected to take an additional one and a half years.
