KATHMANDU: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed for 10 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal. These projects, aimed at enhancing educational, health, and cultural facilities, will be implemented under the grant assistance of the Government of India.

The MoU was signed by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the Government of Nepal (GoN), the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA), and Nepal’s project implementing agencies, on Tuesday. The total project cost amounts to Rs 620.5 million.

Since 2003, India has initiated more than 573 HICDPs in Nepal, including the 10 projects covered by the latest MoU, and has completed 495 of them. These projects span various areas such as education, health, roads and bridges, river training, drinking water, electrification, irrigation, culture, social welfare, and other public utilities. The remaining projects are in different stages of implementation.

According to the Indian Embassy, the projects will be carried out through local bodies of the Government of Nepal, including metropolises, sub-metropolises, municipalities, and rural municipalities. They are expected to provide better services and facilities for the people of Nepal at the grassroots level.
