KATHMANDU: Nepalese Society of Implant Dentistry (NSID) organised the 2025 International Implantology Congress in Kathmandu from April 3 to 6, under the theme 'Biology at the Core – Foundation of Implant Success.'
Dr Bipul Man Singh, President of NSID, aimed to bring implantology under an ethical, scientific, and patient-centred umbrella through the assembly of local and international dental professionals.
Held annually, the congress alternates between featuring Nepali dentists and international dentists. This year, however, it exclusively showcased international experts, highlighting innovations in highly specialised dental implants utilising modern technology.
Following two pre-workshop days on April 3 and 4, the congress shifted focus to 11 polished presentations. These were delivered to an audience of dentists, showcasing the latest breakthroughs in dental implant science and practice.
On April 5, the congress officially began at the Marriott Hotel. Kicking off the programme, Dr Abhay Lamba and Dr Jordi Caballé moderated Dr Anton Sculean’s presentation, 'The Bernese Concept for the Treatment of Hard & Soft Tissue Defects at Teeth and Dental Implants.' This was followed by Dr Thomas Gemmi’s address titled 'Modern Approach of Bone Augmentation: When Biology Guides the Surgery.'
Transitioning into the second half of the day, Dr Chatchai Kunavisarut presented 'Prosthetic Management of Peri-implantitis: Prevention and Treatment,' which was followed by Dr Ian Cojucaro’s 'Fast and Fixed 3.0 (Full Digital Workflow): Improving Patient Journey in Full Arch Rehab.'
As the event progressed, Dr Jordi Caballé returned to the stage to present 'Integrating Biology: The Key to Advance Dental Implantology.' The first day concluded with Dr Udatta Kher’s presentation on 'Fast-tracking Implant Prosthodontics for Full Arch Restoration.' These sessions offered practising dentists a chance to learn, unlearn, and relearn methods enhanced by cutting-edge technology.

Moving to April 6, the congress continued with another day of insightful presentations at Lord of the Drinks (LOD), Thamel. To offer attendees a unique cultural experience, NSID’s international guests were transported through Thamel Bazaar in rickshaws early Sunday morning. Some dentists even took turns pedalling the rickshaws, describing the ride as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The day began with guided meditation facilitated by LOD’s advanced audio system, providing a moment of calm before diving into the next series of presentations. Opening the sessions, Dr Agam Bhatnagar delivered his talk, 'Romancing Endodontics: Retaining Teeth in an Implant-Driven World.'
Building on the momentum, Dr Charitomeni Chatzinikolaöu and Dr Theodoros Gonidis explored the potential of personalised implants constructed in minutes through 3D printing in their presentation, 'Sub-crestal Implants – The Full Digital Workflow.' They were followed by Dr Ongart Puttipisichet, who spoke about 'Mechanical Complications of Implant Prosthesis and its Management.'
In the latter half of the day, Dr R Hariharan presented 'Prosthetic Solutions for Full Arch Implants: The Dilemma,' paving the way for Dr Minas Leventis, who concluded the event with 'Topical Oxygen: Transforming Tissue Reconstruction Strategies.'
Reflecting on the event, Dr Rita Singh, Immediate Past President of NSID, called the congress an invaluable opportunity for experienced and emerging dentists to connect. She emphasised the importance of building networks, noting how international guests shared workshop opportunities at their institutions and encouraged Nepali dentists to apply.
