KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has stated that vehicles failing to meet required standards will be stopped in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).
During a discussion with transport entrepreneurs and workers at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT) today, he emphasised the necessity of coordination with the MoHA, as the Department of Roads (DoR) and Department of Transport Management (DoTM) alone cannot stop vehicles violating rules and standards.
He added that alternative routes and diversion management will be prioritised to prevent vehicle obstruction at construction sites.
Highlighting progress on repairs to BP Highway connecting Kathmandu and eastern Nepal, Minister Dahal said the repair of Kanti Lokpath, an alternative road, has also been prioritised.
Secretary at the MoPIT, Keshab Kumar Sharma, stated that stronger coordination will be established with the MoHA, the Traffic Police, and the federal government to improve transport operations.
Addressing issues faced by vehicles and passengers due to construction on Daunne road, Sharma explained that arrangements have been made for goods-carrying vehicles and passenger vehicles to pass at separate times. He assured that transport services on the section will be improved soon, as its construction has been prioritised.
Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) Chairperson Bijay Bahadur Swar, Senior Vice Chairperson Saroj Sitaula, General Secretary Degnath Gautam, representatives of various trade unions, and others attended the event.
Director General of the DoR, Ram Hari Pokharel, and Deputy Director General, Arjun Prasad Aryal, were also present.
