KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, addressed the 58th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development in New York today.
In his address, Minister Paudel highlighted Nepal's progress in reducing child and maternal mortality over the past three decades. He pointed out a decrease in child marriage and an increase in the use of family planning contraceptives in the country.
"Nepal is committed to improving health facilities for its citizens. However, the government's efforts alone are insufficient," he said, emphasising the need for international cooperation and solidarity to achieve further improvements in health indicators.
The Health Minister also informed the international community about the challenges posed by budget limitations and inadequate infrastructure in remote areas, which continue to obstruct access to health services. He further mentioned that climate change is threatening the health progress made so far, the Health Minister's private secretariat shared this information.
During the UN commission event, Minister Paudel stressed the importance of increased foreign assistance to help Nepal address challenges in its health sector.
