
JANAKPURDHAM: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that Madhes Province holds immense potential, with fertile agricultural land and the Chure region rich in medicinal herbs and water resources. He emphasised that proper utilisation of these resources through collaborative efforts would drive progress in the province.
Addressing the Madhes Province Assembly today, PM Oli highlighted the significance of the Sunkoshi-Marin Diversion Project, a national pride initiative. He noted that the project would not only boost national production and productivity but also foster unity among people from the hills and plains.
The Prime Minister stressed that poverty eradication must be prioritised as the foremost right of the people, asserting that collective efforts towards development and prosperity are essential. He identified industrial estates, petroleum pipelines, railways, postal highways, expressways, and Ramraja Prasad Singh Hospital as key foundations for development and prosperity in Madhes Province. He also suggested that lawmakers could develop Birgunj customs point into a trade hub and Janakpurdham city into a cultural tourism destination.
PM Oli underscored the importance of strengthening the democratic republic with a strong commitment to good governance. He described the federal democratic republic as a significant achievement of the people's struggle, urging efforts to serve the people and work towards full democracy.
He called for steering society towards development and good governance, aligning with people's aspirations for tangible achievements. Praising the social and cultural solidarity, tolerance, and harmony of Madhes Province, he acknowledged the contributions of its disciplined and development-oriented people in maintaining Nepal's independence, sovereignty, geographical integrity, national unity, and self-respect.
The Prime Minister reminded lawmakers that the constitution grants autonomy to Madhes Province, emphasising the collective responsibility to utilise this autonomy effectively. He noted the province's special role in ensuring coordination among the three tiers of government and advancing policies and development initiatives.
In his address, PM Oli commemorated the contributions of luminaries such as Rajarshi Janak, Sita, Maharshi Parashuram, Mahakavi Vidyapati, and other figures, as well as the province's rich religious heritage, which he described as sources of knowledge and inspiration.
