Entrepreneurs demand regular flights at GBIA, announce agitation programme

BHAIRAHAWA: Entrepreneurs and the business community in Rupandehi district have called on relevant authorities to operate regular flights at Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa.

Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rupandehi; Siddhartha Network Rupandehi; and Rupandehi Chamber of Commerce held a press conference in Bhairahawa today to announce a phased agitation programme to push for their demands.

Industrialists said they would collectively launch a decisive agitation for regular flights at GBIA. A joint agitation struggle committee has been formed, led by the Siddhartha Network Rupandehi.

In the first phase of the agitation, discussions will be held with representatives of political parties in Rupandehi, local level representatives, federal and provincial assembly members, and chiefs of relevant airlines, according to Committee Coordinator and Chairperson of Siddhartha Network Rupandehi, Anil Kumar Gyawali.

A peaceful protest will also be held in front of the airport with thousands of participants. The agitation aims to draw the attention of the prime minister, tourism minister, finance minister, labour minister, health minister, secretaries of relevant ministries, and the chief of Nepal Airlines Corporation, Gyawali said.
