65 bridges constructed in Karnali Province in 21 months

KANKREBIHAR, SURKHET: Sixty-five bridges have been constructed in Karnali Province over the past 21 months.

According to the province’s Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, 23 RCC bridges and 42 suspension bridges have been built during this period. Six suspension bridges were constructed between July and December of the current fiscal year 2024/25.

Ministry spokesperson Ramesh Subedi stated that motorable bridges have been constructed on five roads. Four suspension bridges have been built in Humla district, while two were completed in Kalikot district. Additionally, one motorable bridge has been built in each of the districts of Surkhet, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Mugu, and Salyan.

Subedi reported that 21.45 kilometres of roads have been tarmacked over the past nine months of the current fiscal year, while 95 kilometres were tarmacked during the last 21 months.

A total of 205 kilometres of roads have been gravelled, and a track has been opened on 525 kilometres of fair-weather roads within this period.

Approval has been granted for the construction of eight new motorable bridges during the current fiscal year.

Additionally, consent has been given for the construction of a Bailey bridge, and a multi-year contract has been initiated to secure resources for 41 new suspension bridges.

Funding has been secured for the construction of one road, two bridges, and two suspension bridges in Rukum-West.

Similarly, construction has begun on three Bailey bridges in Jajarkot, and the Nalgad Hydroelectricity Project has started building a bridge at Khara, which links Barekot and Nalgad municipalities.

Financial resources have been secured for 11 projects in Surkhet, including the construction of four suspension bridges, four roads, two roads with bridges, and one other structure.

Funding has also been allocated for the construction of two motorable bridges and eight suspension bridges in Dailekh.

Resources have been assured for six projects in Mugu. According to Subedi, funding has been secured for three projects in Humla, eight projects in Dolpa, four projects in Jajarkot, three projects in Kalikot, eight projects in Dailekh, seven projects in Salyan, and four projects in Jumla.

Overall, financial resources have been secured for a total of 61 projects in Karnali Province in the current fiscal year.
