KATHMANDU: Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) and Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST) signed an agreement on April 13 for long-term collaboration to promote digital technology.
The agreement outlines joint efforts to advance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and develop skilled manpower in Nepal. MBUST President Professor Rajendra Dhoj Joshi and CAN Federation President Sunaina Ghimire Pandey signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Under the agreement, MBUST and CAN Federation will focus on producing skilled manpower for the technology sector, collaborating on digital technology research and development, and organising training programmes, seminars, and knowledge networking events. They will also provide internship opportunities for students and foster industry-academia collaboration.
Focal persons have been appointed to oversee these initiatives, with Assistant Professor Dr Rajib Subba representing MBUST and Ranjeet Kumar Poddar, Immediate Past President of CAN Federation, coordinating activities.
The partnership will remain in effect for five years, with provisions for extensions or amendments through mutual consent. Collaboration will follow principles of mutual trust, transparency, and self-reliant cooperation.
In addition, MBUST has announced scholarships for two postgraduate IT programmes for the academic session starting on May 16, 2025. Scholarships ranging from 25% to 100% fee waivers are available for the Master of Applied Science (MAAS) in Artificial Intelligence and MAAS in Data Science programmes. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale in science, engineering, technology, or related disciplines. Scholarships will be allocated based on seat availability.
Applications will close on April 23, and selected students will be announced on April 26. Candidates can apply online via scholarship.can.org.np.
CAN Federation has committed to disseminating this information among its members to encourage participation. President Ghimire described the partnership as a milestone for ICT development in Nepal, stating that collaboration with educational and research institutions is essential for advancing the sector.
MBUST President Joshi expressed confidence that the partnership will enhance the university’s digital technology programmes. He noted that private sector involvement will strengthen initiatives, providing students with relevant knowledge and skills while promoting innovation.
