KATHMANDU: The Soaltee Kathmandu is marking the Nepali New Year with a week-long culinary event at Garden Terrace, celebrating Nepal’s diverse landscapes through its cuisine. The dinner event, which began on April 13 and will continue until April 19, highlights the unique flavours of the Himalayas, the mid-hill Pahad region, and the fertile Tarai plains. Customers and guests are invited to attend the event.

The specially curated buffet features authentic regional dishes showcasing Nepal’s rich culinary heritage. From the Himalayas, the menu includes Jimbu Chicken, pan-fried with the aromatic herb jimbu, Shyakpa, a hearty noodle soup with hand-pulled dough strips, meat, and vegetables, Mustang Alu, crispy potato wedges seasoned with timur (Sichuan pepper), and Lepukhu, a bold goat head curry.
From the Pahad region, the offerings include earthy dishes such as Mushroom Chhoila, Khasiko Khuttako Ledo (mutton trotter curry), and Gundruk Bhatmas ko Jhol, a tangy curry made with fermented greens and soybeans. Other traditional specialities include Sisnuko Khole (nettle green soup), Lungghakcha, and Dupka, lentil dumplings in yoghurt curry.

The Tarai region contributes dishes like Kanchemba (buckwheat fries flavoured with timur), Pakuwa (a spiced, dry-cooked Tharu lamb dish), and Machhka Jhor, a mustard-based fish curry. Desserts include Juju Dhau, Bhaktapur’s renowned 'king of curds,' celebrated for its rich, creamy texture and mild sweetness.
