Indian Minister Khattar arrives in Nepal to inspect Arun III project, sign transmission line agreements

KATHMANDU: India's Minister of Power and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, arrived in Kathmandu today for a two-day official visit to Nepal.

He arrived at the invitation of the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka. Ministe Khattar is scheduled to visit the Arun III Hydroelectric Project's powerhouse and dam, located in the Sankhuwasabha district. The 900-megawatt project is being developed in Makalu Rural Municipality in the district, with an investment of Rs 104 billion from India.

The project was jointly launched by the incumbent and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2075 BS.

Additionally, the visiting Indian Minister will attend a signing ceremony for Lamki-Bareli and Inaruwa-Purniya transmission lines, jointly organised by Nepal and India today. The signing ceremony will take place in Kathmandu, according to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI).

Minister Khattar is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakashman Singh. He is also cheduled to undertake a religious trip to Mustang and Pashupatinath in Kathmandu.
