Deuba highlights private sector's role in boosting economy

  • Former PM Deuba calls for focus on digital economy in upcoming budget

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has commended the private sector for its contribution to strengthening the national economy.

Speaking at an interaction organised by Nepali Congress's Industry and Trade Department today, Deuba highlighted the importance of private sector in driving the country's economic prosperity. "Industries and businesses should be strengthened to promote markets for domestic goods and services," he stated.

Deuba emphasised the role of private sector in increasing the production of domestic goods and called for coordination between  private sector and the government to create employment opportunities. He also underscored the significance of digital economy, saying, "The budget for the next fiscal year should focus on promoting the digital economy. This will aid in the advancement of information technology." He expressed confidence that the upcoming fiscal year's budget would address the concerns of private sector and revitalise the economic sector.

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa remarked that while the current government would continue, it must fulfil the aspirations of the public.

On the occasion, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal urged the state to create an investment-friendly environment for private sector.

Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) Senior Vice President Deepak Kumar Malhotra suggested that selling apartments to foreign nationals would be advantageous and would also contribute to the development of eco-tourism. He further stressed the need to adopt policies that attract foreign investment in agriculture.
