LALITPUR: Kathmandu University (KU) and the Nepal Policy Institute (NPI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on education and research.
The MoU was signed during a programme organised at the School of Management, KU in Lalitpur on Monday. NPI is a Netherlands-based institute.
Chief of the Global Engagement Department at KU, Dr Dinesh Kafle, stated that the agreement includes joint research, publications, and exchange of students and teachers. Under the MoU, the two institutions will jointly mobilise grants for policy research and cooperate to foster research initiatives.
KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Achyut Wagle expressed confidence that the agreement would create opportunities for both institutions to share expertise and experiences within the academic community. "KU has a policy to invite foreign scholars and professors for long-term teaching and research. The expert team in the diaspora can, therefore, contribute to KU's educational programmes for short or long terms. I believe this initiative helps us foster cooperation and exchange views between the two academic institutions," Wagle remarked.
Similarly, Khagendra Raj Dhakal, Chair of NPI's Board of Directors, underlined NPI's contributions to policy research in Nepal and strengthening of the think tank system. He said the collaboration would enhance academic and research activities of both institutions.
Dhakal added that the agreement enables Nepali talents living abroad to contribute their intellect in Nepal, ultimately benefitting the nation. He stressed the need for trilateral cooperation among public sector, universities, and think tanks.
KU, established in 1992, is a leading university with approximately 22,000 students. NPI, founded in 2017 in The Hague, Netherlands, has a global network of over 1,260 experts.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by university dignitaries.
