KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, India today.
The two prime ministers exchanged their views on ways to further strengthen bilateral ties and advance cooperation in multiple areas for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.
Prime Minister Deuba reached New Delhi India on Friday on a three-day official visit at the friendly invitation of Indian Prime Minister Modi.
Prime Minister Deuba and Modi are scheduled to launch the Janakpur-Jayanagar Railway Service later today. Similarly, more than 130 health posts constructed with Indian assistance in the post-earthquake reconstruction in Nepal will also be jointly inaugurated virtually by the two prime ministers. Moreover, bilateral discussions will be held to reach an agreement on the purchase of electricity produced and surplus in Nepal. Bilateral agreements will be signed and a joint press statement will be issued today. The two prime ministers will address a joint press conference. Prime Minister Modi was scheduled to host a luncheon in honour of the Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister Deuba. Prime Minister Deuba will call on India's Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in the afternoon today. PM Deuba will also hold an interaction with the Indian business community this evening. Earlier, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Deuba, who reached New Delhi on Friday afternoon, held a high-level meeting with Chairperson of Bharatiya Janata Party, JP Nadda. In the meeting, the two sides discussed issues including strengthening of Nepal-India relations and common interests. Also, the relations between Nepali Congress and BJP were discussed on the occasion, according to Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka, who is also the PM-led delegation member. Together with PM during the meeting were his spouse Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Minister Khadka, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Pampha Bhusal, Minister for Health and Population, Birodh Khatiwada, and Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mahindra Ray Yadav. Similarly, Minister for External Affairs of India, Subramanyam Jaishankar, had paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Deuba on Friday evening. On the occasion, External Minister Jaishankar expressed happiness over meeting PM Deuba and expressed confidence that his visit would help strengthen relations between India and Nepal. According to Deuba, his visit to India is focused on bolstering Nepal-India relations and holding discussions on bilateral economic cooperation. On Friday, PM Deuba attended a welcome reception hosted by the Nepali Ambassador to India, Shankar Prasad Sharma, in honour of PM Deuba at the Nepali Embassy. During a ceremony organised by the embassy, he expressed his belief that his visit would reach Nepal-India relations to a new height. He also said that it was his fifth visit in the prime ministerial stint. He shared the information that during his visit, significant announcements will be made in the sectors of energy, agriculture, health and transportation. Similarly, some memoranda of understanding (MoU) were also on the exchange list. He lauded the creative role the community of migrant Nepalis played in assisting Nepal.
