DDC increases price of milk to Rs 85 per litre

KATHMANDU: The Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has increased the price of milk by Rs 9 per litre. Organising a press conference, DDC informed the price of milk has been raised to Rs 85 per litre. The meeting of the Board of Directors at DDC had taken this decision on Wednesday. As per the Board's decision, the price hike varies based on location. Accordingly, Rs 85 has been fixed in Kathmandu Valley, Hetauda, Biratnagar and Janakpur, while Rs 81 for Butwal and Bhairahawa, and Rs 79 in Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi. Previously, the price of milk was Rs 76 in Kathmandu, Rs 72 in Butwal and Bhairahawa, and Rs 70 in Nepalgunj. With the increase in price, farmers benefit Rs 6.52 while the industrialists gain Rs 2.48. Earlier in mid-January,  the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development had formed a committee after the Central Dairy Cooperative Association Limited Nepal requested to increase the price of milk citing that they were not getting even the cost of investment of the milk by selling it.
