Govt hands over humanitarian relief materials to Afghanistan

KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal on behalf of Nepali people sent a chartered aircraft with humanitarian relief materials for the people of Afghanistan, on Sunday. Himalaya Airlines operated the humanitarian flight to Kabul, carrying 9.7 tonnes (9715 kg) of relief materials upon request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). Adhering to its CSR commitments, the airline contributed a total of $106,850.00 equivalent to Rs 12.5 million approximately to the noble cause by operating the flight free of cost. [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="18560"] Himalaya’s Airbus 319-115, 9N AJK took off to Kabul at 9:17 am carrying medicines, clothing, shoes, blankets, cutlery among other essential materials.  The 15-member delegation onboard included officials from MoFA, representatives of business organisations and media houses and Honorary Counsels. Flight H9 5931 landed at the Kabul International Airport at 11:08 am (local time). Later before the departure of the flight,  Zhou Enyong, President of Himalaya Airlines, mentioned that it was a great honour to be asked by the Government of Nepal to operate the charity flight for humanitarian support to the people of Afghanistan. Vijay Shrestha, Vice President, Himalaya Airlines stated, “We are glad to stand by the people irrespective of borders and boundaries and would stand by the Government of Nepal for extending possible assistance in such humanitarian missions.” [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="18559,18565"] The assistance containing medicines, garments, and household items were handed over by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry, Sewa Lamsal to Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan Dr Ramiz Alakbarov amid a brief programme organised at the Kabul Airport. Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka led the efforts in realising the humanitarian assistance as a goodwill gesture of the people of Nepal. Economic hardship and harsh winter weather in Afghanistan necessitated humanitarian assistance and support from the international community to the people of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and other institutions extended their generous hands in support of the Mission.
