KATHMANDU: Balaji Cement Industries based in Shivaraj Municipality-6 of Kapilvastu district in Lumbini Province has started exporting PPC cement to India.
The export of cement started after the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) approved Bahubali and Shristi brand PPC cement produced by Balaji Cement Industries.
In the first phase, the company exported 42 tonnes of cement to Classic Enterprises dealer in Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh state in India. Two trucks carrying 21 tonnes of cement each headed to India via Krishnanagar border transit in Kapilvastu.
The production and export of cement have increased since the BIS awarded the quality-related Indian Standards Institute (ISI) mark to the products of Balaji Cement. In India, there is a rule that cement without 'ISI' mark cannot be imported while cement without 'NS' mark cannot be exported from Nepal.
This is the first time the product from Kapilvastu district has been exported to India. The cement manufacturing company aims to gradually increase the export volume.
The government's policy of providing 8% subsidy to industries exporting domestic products worth over Rs 500 million has also provided a relief to the cement industry, according to Sandeep Kumar Gadia, founder of Balaji Cement. He said there is hope for a good market now as the export of cement to India has started even in the current difficult economic situation.
Gadia shared, "We have become successful in achieving the company's goal of exporting cement to India and we thank the government for facilitating the subsidies. We urge the government to bring more industry-friendly, export-friendly policies. We are confident that our cement exports will somewhat reduce the trade deficit with India."
The daily production capacity of Balaji Cement Industries is 1,600 tonnes. The company has been producing OPC 43 grade and PPC cement in Bahubali and Shristi brands.
The company established in 2020 uses Loesche Vertical Roller Mill (VRM), the most advanced technology in cement production procedures. Balaji Cement Industries has good markets in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
