Karnali Academy of Health Sciences enrols first batch of students on MBBS course

KATHMANDU: Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) based in Jumla has enrolled the first batch of students for the MBBS course after a decade of its establishment. With the enrolment, expectations are high among people in Karnali province regarding their access to health education and health care services. The KAHS started running the MBBS classes with the decision taken by the Medical Education Commission on June 12 allowing the Jumla-based institution to enrol 20 MBBS students. Fifteen students, who made it through the Medical Education Commission's integrated entrance examination, gained admission to the Academy on Sunday. All 15 students have gained full scholarships while five others admitted to the academy will have to pay fees. The KAHS organised a programme to welcome the new students on Sunday. Om Kumar Yadav, the first student to gain admission at the academy, said he was 'highly elated' to get admission in the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences. Likewise, another student Apeksha Parajuli said she has full confidence in the high-quality of teachers, laboratory and equipment. The Academy has already started Masters' in Medicine (MD), Bachelors' in Pharmacy (BS Pharm), Bachelors' in Nursing (BN) and some other courses from this academy year. The KAHS is running a 300-bed hospital in Jumla for the studies of higher education in the medical field. Rector of Academy Prof Dr Niresh Thapa said that the dream of talents to get admission for the medical education has been materialised adding that 'door to make Karnali a medical hub has opened'.
