KATHMANDU: Senior Vice President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, said that the problems and challenges in the contribution-based social security system should be addressed. Speaking at a program organised on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the introduction of contribution-based social security system, Dhakal said, "Our common goal is to develop good labour relations by guaranteeing social security by resolving problems of the labour sector. Dhakal said, “As the social security system is new to us, there are some practical difficulties in its implementation and although the listing process is slow, there is nothing to worry about the number of registered firms and workers enrolled in the contribution-based social security system. ” He expressed his hope that rather than deviating from the problems, the fund would advance the social security system by considering the experience gained and the challenges seen in the implementation of the security system. Dhakal informed that about 16,000 firms and 295,000 workers have been registered for social security so far. Informing that the registered workers are also getting benefits from the social security fund, FNCCI's Senior Vice President said that there is still a lot of confusion and lack of understanding about this system and stressed that the confusion should be cleared.. He said that many countries have experienced various practical difficulties in implementing social security system. "We also have some problems now. We are of the view that all stakeholders should move forward to find a suitable solution to such problems," he added. Dhakal urged the stakeholders to consider further reforms and modifications in the laws and procedures to make the contribution-based social security system suitable to our own environment so as to end the existing disputes and dilemmas. He suggested that the current system of provident funds and allowances should be managed in the interest of the workers as much as possible and the facility plan for that should be made practical. He said, "I would like to urge the fund to take stock of this system as per the expectation of workers and employers." He also urged all to contribute at their respective levels to make the social security system attractive and reliable. READ ALSO:
