MONA remits over Rs 26m assistance for social work

Kathmandu: The association of people from Myagdi district working and living abroad have collected and remitted more than Rs 26 million to their home district in the past two years for social work. The Myagdi Overseas Nepalese Association (MONA), an organisation of the people from Myagdi district who are working and living abroad, has sent the amount in the last two years' period, this information was shared in the fourth General Convention of MONA which kicked off in Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi district, on October 19. Cash and relief items worth over Rs 26 million has entered Myagdi through MONA from 2019 till date. The MONA has also set up an emergency fund to help and rescue people. Moreover, it has rescued people from Myagdi who are facing problems abroad. It has been learnt that non-resident Nepalis who have been working and living in 28 countries around the world have contributed to the monetary assistance for the reconstruction of the houses for the families affected by landslides and for buying health supplies to respond to COVID-19 in the district. Earlier, MONA had collected Rs 20 million and sent the amount for the reconstruction of 40 houses destroyed by landslides at various local levels in 2020. As many as 14 houses were rebuilt in Dhaulagiri, 10 in Malika and four houses each in Annapurna, Mangala and Raghuganga rural municipalities, and Beni Municipality. These houses with three rooms, a toilet and drinking water facilities were handed over to the people affected by floods and landslides last July. READ ALSO:
