A A- A+
KATHMANDU: 'Sharepur', a novel by Narayan Prasad Sapkota, former president of the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON), has been released. Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) Chairman Ramesh Kumar Hamal, SEJON Founder President Prateek Pradhan, and other present and past presidents of SEJON released the novel at a programme organised by SEJON to hold a discussion on the novel, on Thursday. At the programme, SEBON Chairman Hamal said the book encourages investors to invest in the stock market. He opined that the capital market was gradually expanding in Nepal. With reference to 'Padam', a character in the novel, Hamal recalled that he too felt bored in Nepal and left for abroad, and returned after 20 years. Mentioning that Nepal's stock market is still small and not transparent, he stated that an environment of competition is being created to make it transparent. SEBON Chair also claimed that the environment has been set so that those who have the ability can do business. In a different context, he said licences have been issued to new stock brokers and opined that this would help in market expansion and the growth of the government's revenue. SEJON Founder President Pradhan said that economic journalists should be able to self-regulate while investing in the secondary market. He suggested that journalists should not publish stories indicating the shrinking of the market when they are buying shares themselves and stories indicating the expansion while selling. He said it is good to bring new stock brokers by issuing licences, however, he mentioned that the new companies should be transparent. Commenting on the novel, Bigyan Bibhu Adhikari, former president of SEJON, said author Sapkota has expressed complex issues in simple language. The novel has disclosed the success and failure of investing and re-investing in the stock market through the characters — Ramesh and Padam, said Adhikari. Former presidents of SEJON, Pradeep Chapagain and Gokarna Awasthi, and Immediate Past President Bhim Gautam also expressed their opinion about the novel and its author Sapkota. SEJON President Janardan Baral said author Sapkota has presented an appealing book to Nepali readers and investors.
