Government appeals to India’s private sector to increase investment in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged Indian industrialists and businesspersons to increase investment in Nepal. Addressing the 'Nepal India Business Summit' jointly organised by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in New Delhi on Thursday evening, PM Dahal urged the Indian businesspersons to invest in Nepal mentioning that the country has an investment-friendly environment. "The government of Nepal has facilitated policy, legal and other issues. The government is ready to cooperate with the private sector to create an investment-friendly environment and bring in investment," said PM Dahal. He asserted that the present government is ready to move forward together with the private sector. On the occasion, India's Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said that the relationship between Nepal and India is not limited to political or geopolitical or economic matters. "We have a common history. There is deep cultural affinity and strong friendship," he said. "This is not partnership and friendship, it is a family. We want to see more trade and investment flow from India to Nepal and vice versa. I am confident that we can work together for the common prosperity and bright future of the children of both countries." The business summit was held during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's four-day official visit to India.[/caption] At the summit, FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that now is the right time to invest in Nepal due to efforts being made to improve investment-friendly policies, rules and laws. He mentioned about Indian companies earning good profits in Nepal and stated that this example of success is a sufficient basis for investing in Nepal. FNCCI President Dhakal informed that investments can be made in Nepal's energy, water resources, agriculture, tourism, industry and infrastructure development sectors. He assured that the federation will facilitate the Indian private sector for investment in Nepal as per the requirement and also partner with them. Likewise, CII President R Dinesh urged the industrialists to take advantage of the geographical proximity between India and Nepal and to cover the opportunities of each other's markets for mutual development. Investment Board Nepal CEO Sushil Bhatta said that the successful implementation of a big project like Arun III Hydropower Project sends a clear message that it is easy to invest in Nepal. READ ALSO:
