NRB to raise daily gold import quota

Having imposed gold import limits in 2011, the government is now set to increase the daily import quota of gold by five kilograms to 20kgs in view of the demand for the yellow metal. Jewellers claim that the requirement during weddings and festivals increases to 45 kgs per day, however can be contained to 25kgs at other times. President of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers, Mohan Kumar sunar, said that it would be better if it was fixed to 25kgs per day throughout the year as this would help curb smuggling of the yellow metal significantly.
