Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (AIDIA) in conjunction with the Embassy of India held a panel discussion on PM Dahal’s India visit and its impact on bilateral trade, business and investment. Saurya Rana, President of Nepal India Chamber of Commerce & Industry shared highlights of the 25 point agreement during the visit. He also said that the renewal of the trade treaty between both countries will be done in October as is with provisions to improve position later. Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae was explicit that it was time to action and implement rather than keep up the rhetoric on what can and cannot be achieved. He said that the political baggage that is attached to India-Nepal relations hampers economic cooperation between both countries and it is time to be more pragmatic. He suggested strongly that Nepali business players study the Indian market and keep track of the changing dynamics. Rae also said that to promote investment, it is needed that we don’t brush issues under the carpet, and if issues exist, it is time to address it.  The Minister of Commerce, Romi Gauchan Thakali stressed that as a Minister and a citizen he recognised that the focus must be on creating conducive environment for investment.
