KATHMANDU: The year–on–year consumer price inflation remained at 7.76% in mid-April 2023 compared to 7.28% a year ago, according to the current macroeconomic and financial situation of Nepal based on nine months' data of the current fiscal year 2022/23 issued by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
It may be noted that in the current fiscal year, the government has a target of limiting inflation below 7%.

According to NRB report, food and beverage inflation stood at 6.93% while nonfood and service inflation rose to 8.42% in the review month.
Under the food and beverage category, y-o-y price index of restaurant and hotel sub-category increased 14.68%, spices 14.67%, cereal grains & their products 13.72%, fruit 11.00% and tobacco products 10.83%.
Under the non-food and services category, yo-y price index of health sub-category increased 10.39%, housing & utilities 9.54%, recreation & culture 8.81%, furnishing & household equipment 8.74%, and education 8.67%.
In the review month, consumer price inflation in the Kathmandu Valley, Tarai, Hill and Mountain surged to 8.57%, 7.68%, 7.01% and 7.47% respectively. Inflation in these regions were 6.25%, 7.61%, 7.79% and 8.25% respectively a year ago.
