Business is definitely not as usual. Business models have changed. People entering business have changed. Nature of business has changed. And above all, why we do business is seeing new thoughts, new direction. Success and money is a by-product for many entrepreneurs with the key being passion for what they do and a sense of purpose.
Interacting with many young and new entrepreneurs, I learn about the changing dynamics of business. Business aspirants today are not as concerned with money or the lack of it, they simply want a chance to fulfill potential. Many are willing to walk the extra mile, learn every minute, and are driven to excel in what they do. Geography doe not bind them, nor does scale. However, not everyone makes the mark. Business does not have a formula, yet the aspects of competition, new technologies and shrinking resources stay. While passion is undeniably useful so are effective anticipation of addressing challenges, flexibility in thought and action, and good old hard work.
It’s a world of collaborations today. And entrepreneurs want real meaning in their lives which goes beyond money and what it can buy. New entrepreneurs are driven by innovation and finding solutions to the world’s problems. Ideas are not limited to a core few, it can be shared with the world on the internet. With effective collaboration and innovative thinking backed by technology, your laptop can be your office and the globe your market. You can take forward a business received in legacy or create a brand new one. You can decide the scale – selling organic vegetables in your hometown or creating sophisticated software. Yet few sustain. And those who do stand a good chance of making a mark, making a difference.
I enjoy the times we are in. I am excited by the new wave of thinking, planning and working. I love the individuality people bring into their business. I love that people believe and stand for what they believe in. And I think the future is good because more people are unafraid of following their hearts, making mistakes, hard work or failing… more people now understand that they can pick themselves up even if they fall… and they can learn each time and do it better, or even find a new dream.
