Killer Looks, Dominating Demeanour

Some products make their way into the market with a prior hint, some generate intentional hype and some even take support of a teaser, while the rest just make a big bold astounding entry. The latter is the case with Bajaj’s new Dominar 400. While Indian bike enthusiasts had to wait a lot for the launch of this ‘beast of a bike’, their Nepali counterparts fortunately received the bike as a positive surprise. No teasers, no trailers, only the Dominar 400 itself in full blood. Hansraj Hulaschand the sole distributor of Bajaj motorcycles for Nepal, recently launched Bajaj Dominar 400 in the Nepali market. It was a much-awaited bike for some, the sports-cruiser Dominar 400, with its killer looks and brute power, and is all geared to rule the 400 cc segment, one with very few contenders. According to the company, the new Dominar 400 promises a striking experience like no other motorcycle. Aggressive styling, top-notch performance and numerous first-in-segment features actually make Dominar 400 look promising, or for that matter, dominating. Dimensions Going by dimensions, Dominar 400 has a length of 2,156 mm, width of 813 mm and a height of 1,112 mm, making it one of the sizeable rivals for all. The bike has a wheelbase of 1,453 mm and the minimum ground clearance is at 157 mm. The bike’s fuel tank capacity is of 13 litres (could have had higher capacity owing to its engine size) and has a kerb weight of 182 kgs. Design The design and styling is one of the best features of Dominar 400. Bajaj has put the bike in the sports-cruiser segment which is relatively a new one, and the design philosophy employed by Bajaj is quite distinct too. The stance of Dominar 400 is truly masculine, inspired by the stance of a lion, as Bajaj conveys. The large tank is an eye-catcher, is nicely contoured and is very well-designed. The bike has full LED headlamps with vertical Auto Headlamp On (AHO), which is first in its segment. The headlights are claimed to make the bike visible from a distance of 1.5 kms. Adding to the sporty look is the low-profile wide rear tire that is supposed to offer better grip and balance. Performance The motorbike is powered by a 373.3cc triple-spark DTS-I engine, that delivers a maximum output of 35 PS at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 35 Nm at 6,500. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed transmission and a slipper clutch which gives Dominar a top speed of 148 km/hr. The bike can accelerate from 0 to 100km/hr in just 8.23 seconds, as claimed by the company. The slipper clutch allows for smoother transitions between shifts at higher revs, and is supposed to curb wheel-lockup when downshifting from high speeds too quickly. According to the company, the advanced liquid cooling system ensures smooth engine performance even on long rides, and the Dominar 400 is simply the most advanced motorcycle ever made by Bajaj. Features The Dominar 400 comes with a massive perimeter frame and contoured pressed-steel swing-arm to deliver a right-on-spot ride. It boasts of a 43 mm telescopic fork at the front and a multi-step adjustable mono-shock on the rear. A rare feature of the Dominar 400 is its reverse LCD split speedometer that is divided into primary and secondary consoles; the first is on the handle bar and the other on the fuel tank. This is a very novel and smart move as it reduces the clutter in the cockpit and gives better visibility and information. Going fast has to be balanced with stopping fast. Along with its superb acceleration and top speeds, Dominar 400 is equipped with a great braking system. The bike is equipped with large 320 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm disc at the rear with dual-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) that can decelerate the bike from 100km/hr to rest within 46.19 metres. The bike comes with 17-inch alloy wheels with 110/70 section tyres up-front and 150/60 section tyres at the rear. Dominar 400, all in all, is one of its kind two-wheeler in a biking segment that needed a refreshing for much too long. Let’s thank Bajaj for that move. Offered in Midnight Blue, Twilight Plum and Moon White colour options, the bike is priced at Rs 469,900 and is ready to ride at all Bajaj showrooms across Nepal.
