3rd National Cooperative Congress-2023 kicks off in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: National Cooperative Federation of Nepal (NCF) and the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (MoLMCPA) have jointly begun the 3rd National Cooperative Congress-2023 today. Representatives of federal, provincial and local governments, bankers, representatives of non-governmental organisations, stakeholders of concerned bodies of cooperatives and foreign guests have participated in the three-day conference being held in Kathmandu. Earlier at press meet, NCF Chairman Min Raj Kadel informed that there will be intensive discussions about the achievements of the cooperative sector, the current problems in the cooperative sector, the way to solve them, and the future directions of action. He said the conference will also make decisions on action plans until 2030. NCF Chairman Kadel said that the influence of Nepal's cooperative campaign is important in the development process of South Asian countries so this conference is also important. He said that board meetings of International Co-operative Alliance Asia Pacific and Network for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific (NEDAC) will also be held during the conference in Kathmandu. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was scheduled to inaugurate the 3rd National Cooperative Congress-2023. Similarly, former prime minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli will address the conference on Saturday. A manifesto will be issued after extensive discussion on 11 issues at the conference, according to NCF General Manager Chitra Kumari Thamsuhang Subba. At the conference, Vice Chancellor of Agriculture and Forestry University, Prof Punya Prasad Regmi; Director of Nepal Rastra Bank's Monetary Management Department, Ramsharan Kharel; banker Anil Keshary Shah; former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission, Govind Raj Pokharel; and NCF GM Subba will present papers on various topics. Similarly, MoLMCPA Secretary Damodar Regmi; former finance secretaries Rameshwar Khanal and Surendra Pandey; and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Radhika Aryal; will make presentations at the conference. Melina Morrison, CEO of the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals; Regional Director– ICA Asia and Pacific, Balasubramanian (‘Balu’) Iyer; and Takuo Ichiya, Senior Manager of the International Co-operation Division of JA Zenchu, Japan's Central Union of Agricultural Co-operatives, will present working papers on various topics on behalf of the International Cooperative Campaign, according to NCF. The conference being held at Hotel Yak & Yeti will conclude on April 8. NCF, the apex body of Nepal's cooperative campaign, has been organising the National Cooperative Congress every five years.
