KATHMANDU: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Nepal Police and Everest Bank Ltd on cooperation in the establishment, operation and management of 'Nepal Police-Everest Bank Scholarship Akshaya Fund'.
At a programme held at the Nepal Police Headquarters on Sunday, Everest Bank Chief Executive Officer Sudesh Khaling handed over a cheque of Rs 2.5 million to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dhiraj Pratap Singh and also exchanged MoU.
In the programme, IGP Singh thanked Everest Bank for the agreement and expressed his belief that more and more descendants of police personnel will benefit from it. He lauded Everest Bank for supporting Nepal Police to facilitate police operations in various ways under its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
IGP Singh recalled that the Nepal Police has been continuously providing security and support to the banks in accordance with the law. Discussing that the agreement will boost the morale of the lower-ranking police personnel, he expressed the hope that Nepal Police and the EBL will exchange mutual assistance in the future as well.
On this occasion, EBL CEO Khaling expressed his pleasure to contribute to the Nepal Police who are working round-the-clock to ensure the safety of citizens. He expected that more students would benefit from the agreement.
As per the agreement, Nepal Police Headquarters, Welfare Division, will provide annual fees, examination fees, and stationeries to at least two students — children of police personnel in the rank from office assistant to head constable (serving, retired, martyred and with disabilities) — who obtain excellent marks at Nepal Police schools. Food and accommodation expenses at schools with boarding facilities and transportation fares in other schools will also be available.
In order to provide scholarships, EBL will establish a 'Nepal Police-Everest Bank Scholarship Akshaya Fund' to be operated and managed by the Police Welfare Fund. The scholarship will be offered from the next academic session Mid-April 2023 to the students from class IV to XII at Nepal Police School. If the interest income received from the fund is insufficient, the problem will be resolved through mutual coordination and agreement, the MoU mentions.
The MoU was signed on behalf of Nepal Police by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kedar Dhakal, Head of Nepal Police Headquarters, Welfare Division, and Keshab Raj Paudel, Deputy General Manager of Everest Bank, on behalf of Everest Bank.
