A A- A+
KATHMANDU: Nepal's trade with China through land route has been closed once again with the closure of Rasuwagadhi-Kyirong border point until February 3, reported EPardafas. China has closed the border citing the Chinese New Year celebration that began on January 22 and will be celebrated till February 5. One of the key trade routes between Nepal and China has been closed in less than a month after China eased restrictions at the border point after three years due to Covid 19 pandemic. China announced the opening of the border for two-way trade between the two countries on December 28 and reopened Rasuwagdhi-Kyirong border point on January 8. EPardafas quoted Chief of Rasuwa Customs Office based in Timure, Narayan Prasad Bhandari, as saying that 39 containers loaded with goods worth Rs 60 million have been exported to China from Nepal in a month. "Every day, 14 containers were coming to Nepal from China, that too has been closed," he added. The earthquake in Nepal and the Covid19 pandemic have impacted Nepal's trade with China. Although the Chinese border was opened, the trade between the two countries had not returned to normal and progress in the business was yet to be made. Nepal exports incense sticks, handicraft items, noodles, pashmina, readymade garments, leather goods, Rudraksha, tanned skin, tea, woollen carpets and other products to China. Likewise, Aluminium (scrap, flake, foil, bars and rods), apple, bags, camera, ceramic products, chemicals, chemical fertilisers, computers and parts, cosmetic goods, dry cell batteries, electrical goods, fasteners, garlic, glasswares, medical equipment and tools, medicine among other products are imported in Nepal from China.
