Dr. Niraj Baidya

A A- A+
Dr. Niraj Baidya is a Consultant Surgeon in the Department of GI Surgery and the Deputy Director of B&B Hospital. An MBBS graduate from the prestigious St. Petersburg Medical University in Russia, he specialised in surgery from Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India. An avid bike and car enthusiast, Dr. Niraj is a big foodie and loves to travel. He shares the five things that have impacted his work and life:
“When people look up to you and put their lives in your hands, the responsibility can be daunting.”

My Parents

Both my parents have been trailblazers in their respective fields. My father, Prof. Dr. Jagdish Lal Baidya, Managing Director of B&B Hospital and Head of the Department of Urology and General Surgery, is among the pioneer doctors and held in high esteem in his field of expertise. My mother, Rehana Baidya, retired Professor of Organic Chemistry at Patan Campus, has chosen to remain out of the spotlight and yet has contributed immensely to the field of education. They have worked their way up from humble beginnings and have reached the pinnacle in their respective careers. Their humility, dedication and their passion for work has inspired not just me but countless others who have chosen to tread the path they have forged.

My family

My wife and my children have been my strength. Being a doctor comes with its own set of challenges. My wife, Dr. Reena Baidya is a Consultant Pathologist & HR Manager at B&B Hospital. She has made sacrifices in her career so that I could pursue mine. Reena has been instrumental in shaping our kids. She has shouldered the responsibility of taking care of the household and children and balancing it all despite the demanding life of a doctor.

Travel

Travelling has been my way of finding tranquility in a life that can be very hectic and stressful. When people look up to you and put their lives in your hands, the responsibility can be daunting. Travelling revitalises me. Be it a quick getaway within Nepal or a trip with the family abroad, those breaks have proved to be the perfect antidote to an otherwise hectic life.

B&B Hospital

B&B Hospital has become a household name in Nepal and an institution in itself. Though I share the last name with one of the B’s the credit goes to Dr. Jagdish Lal Baidya and Dr. Ashok Banskota. They have been the pillars on which this great institution stands. I will be one of the torchbearers that will carry their legacy forward along with the other medical practitioners that work here. The impact that this hospital has on me is paramount and I hope to build on the excellence B&B has been recognized for.

My mentor

I have grown up in my father’s shadow and I have strived to live up to his legacy. No one can fill his shoes. He has encouraged, motivated and enthused me in my profession and continues to inspire me. I am in awe of my father and I strive to inculcate the values he has imbibed. As a human being his modesty, his acumen, his kindness and all the traits that make him drives me to be like him. He has had the biggest impact on me and resounds in all aspects of my life.
