EK EK Paila initiates health project for squatters along Bagmati

KATHMANDU: EK EK Paila, an initiative of a group of volunteers, has started 'Bagmati River Squatters Health Outreach Project' in Kathmandu. The two-year project will provide free medical service to 11 squatter settlements along the banks of Bagmati River in Kathmandu valley. EK EK Paila's first programme will be held on Saturday, February 26 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Thapathali, next to Paropakar Maternity and Womens' Hospital. EK EK Paila Community Health Centre will organise a one-day free health camp targeting landless squatters on Saturday. The services to be provided by the health camp include check-ups of diseases of children, diseases relating to eyes, skin, chest, liver, dental, ENT, liver, general surgery, gynaecology, maternity, video X-ray and pharmacy. The health service will be followed by a short musical programme at ‘Chautari’, according to the president of EK EK Paila, Dr Suman S Thapa. Meanwhile, the social organisation has invited those who are interested to attend the programme as an audience or volunteers. EK EK Paila came into existence following the mega earthquake of 2015, when a group of like-minded people came together to provide free health services in the affected areas. The organisation started its first ‘Paila’ or ‘Step’ on June 6, 2015, from Sindhupalchok district which was the most devastated region by the earthquake. So far, EK EK Paila has reached 19 destinations in remote areas of Nepal providing free health services to the people. READ ALSO:
