KATHMANDU: As electronic transactions have been on the rise in Nepal in recent times, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has urged those who make payments through electronic mediums to pay special attention to various issues regarding fraudulence.
The central bank has said that complaints are being received that various criminal individuals/groups are using various means to defraud the customers who make transactions from home through various electronic devices.
NRB said there could be fraudulence when someone asks for money in the name of acquaintances through social media. Likewise, receiving a call from someone pretending to be from a bank and asking for a customer's confidential information like internet banking or mobile banking username and password could also be fraudulence, money laundering or solicitation of money.
Further NRB has said that special attention should be paid to avoid such frauds while conducting electronic transactions as it is learned that frauds are being committed to motivating people to invest in illegal devices. It has been reminded not to share any confidential information with strangers through any means. The mobile phone, other devices and app passwords need to be changed from time to time and kept confidential.
