KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said that it is not a good practice to always press the secretaries of all the ministries to ramp up capital expenditure. He said this during a review meeting on the capital expenditure so far in the current fiscal year.
He said it should not be necessary to always ask the concerned secretaries about the expenditure of their respective ministries and doing so will not give a good message either. "It should not be necessary to organise such meetings time and again, although it is okay to facilitate to find a solution to problems. This kind of practice should be put to an end," the Finance Minister said.
According to him, such meetings will not have to be held if all the ministries and concerned bodies are responsible from their respective sides.
Finance Minister Sharma instructed secretaries to furnish clear details of whether expenditure is possible in a particular project. He directed them to prepare a list of plans in which expenditure is possible and those in which it is not.
He also directed them to give their suggestions along with experiences after the half-yearly review of the expenditures.
The Ministry of Agriculture should play a greater role in this, he asserted.
