FNJ Surkhet chapter demands increase in public welfare advertisement

KARNALI: Surkhet chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has demanded an increase in public welfare advertisement provided by the government for the sustainability of district-based media which faced severe problems due to Covid 19 pandemic. The FNJ Surkhet chapter also asked the province government to formulate law and policy with mandatory provisions to publish and broadcast advertisement in local media. The third full meeting of the chapter held at Gumkhola of Lekbensi Municipality concluded on Monday, issuing an eight-point declaration. The declaration also demanded the provincial government to pass the bill related to the establishment of Karnali Province Information Technology and Mass Communications Academy registered at Karnali Province Assembly with some amendments so as to ensure full press freedom. Arrangement of grants in the purchase of communications materials for working journalists, effective running of journalist health insurance programme by the provincial government and the establishment of scholarship for journalists has also been demanded in the declaration. The meeting also called its members elected in executive role of different political parties in the recent period to give up the membership of FNJ. The FNJ Surkhet chapter decided to monitor district-based media houses regarding the impact of coronavirus and the implementation of the Working Journalists Act.
