Governance Lab collaborates with FWEAN to strengthen women-led enterprises

LALITPUR: Governance Lab in collaboration with Federation of Woman Entrepreneurs’ Associations of Nepal (FWEAN) organised a panel discussion on 'Accelerating Women-led Enterprises Through Innovative Approaches' at the 6th International Women’s Trade Expo and Symposium 2022. The panel comprised Monisha Shrestha, Value Chain & Access to Finance expert; Rishi Ram Pangeni, Under Secretary of Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies; Samata Panta Bhatta, Deputy CEO, Nepal Bank Limited and Kamal Thapa, Programme Manager, Daayitwa had insightful discussions on the issue, existing policies and programmes, and innovative ideas and approaches on how women-led enterprises can be strengthened for the sustainable economic growth of the nation. In the keynote speech, British Ambassador to Nepal Nicola Pollitt stressed the importance of women-centric policies and programmes to sustainably accelerate women-led enterprises. “More efforts are needed to address the systemic constraints that prevent women from contributing to and benefitting from Nepal’s economic growth,” she said. FWEAN President Neeru Rayamajhi Khatri encouraged the attendees of the event to put forward their concerns related to the issue and said, “The government of Nepal has acknowledged FWEAN as one of the policy partners, so, the conclusions drawn from this discussion will be documented and submitted to the government as recommendations, and FWEAN will strongly push to bring some positive changes in the policies related to women entrepreneurship.” Salina Bhattarai, Governance and Research Coordinator of Governance Lab, who also conducted the event as the host said, "Discussions are very important to examine the current situation of women entrepreneurs and support in accelerating them through innovative approaches to ensure the sustainable economic growth of Nepal. We are very hopeful with this collaboration and excited to come up with meaningful projects that can escalate women entrepreneurship in Nepal." Likewise, FWEAN Board Member Prativa Pandey made a presentation highlighting the works of FWEAN at the event. Pandey is the Founder and CEO of Catalyst Technology and Herveda Botanicals. FWEAN member entrepreneur Basu Maya Tamang, who runs the Nepali Mann Udhyog shared the heart-touching story of her entrepreneurial journey. The panel was moderated by the television journalist Sama Thapa. Most of the attendees were women entrepreneurs from every nook and corner of the country, including the relevant stakeholders from the government of Nepal, private companies, diplomatic and development agencies, civil society organisations, and the media. Governance Lab (GovLab), an initiative of Daayitwa Abhiyaan, supports the government to make evidence-based policy decisions by conducting policy research, strengthening implementation capacity and fortifying research and governance ecosystems.
