Government to introduce Advertising Code of Conduct

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to introduce Advertising Code of Conduct in a bid to regulate the advertising industry rather than controlling it. Baikuntha Aryal, secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, said so while inaugurating the two-day training on capacity building of human resources for advertisement management. He further explained that the code of conduct formulated is going to be introduced in consultation with stakeholders to make advertisement sector more clean, transparent, responsible and accountable. "Often advertisements are made without authenticity and with misleading substantial information," he said, adding the code of conduct aims to streamline such trends and tendencies in the advertisement sector. The secretary also reaffirmed his commitment to make the Advertisement Board transparent and competitive and to amend Board's policies and regulations in a timely manner. Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN)'s senior vice-president Narayan Shrestha underscored the formulation and implementation of clear and coherent policy regarding distribution of advertisement. Board's chairperson Laxman Humagain shared that trainees will be enlightened on Board's undertakings, concept of advertisement and current trends, advertising code of conduct and importance of advertising industry among others.
