KATHMANDU: Lawmaker Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has drawn the attention of the government to check the price hike in foodstuffs.
In a special hour of today's meeting of the House of Representatives, former Minister for Foreign Affairs Gyawali drew the government's attention to control price hikes. He said people are hit hard by the price hike in petroleum products, construction materials and foodstuffs.
"Fair price shops should be run in order to provide relief to the people who are below the poverty line and action should be taken against those involved in wrongdoings. The price hike has taken place all of sudden," he said.
CPN (UML) leader Gyawali further demanded the government carry out activities keeping in mind the life of the 17% of the population who are below the poverty line. "The government has failed to pay attention to control price hike. The Parliament should speak about the difficulties being faced by the people," he opined.
Urging the House Speaker to make the ruling in the name of the government on the issues of controlling price hikes, Gyawali also demanded the government resolve the problems of fertiliser and textbooks immediately as farmers have been facing problems in paddy plantation due to lack of fertiliser while students of remote areas have not received textbooks yet.
He also asked the government to increase the wages of daily labourers as well as to carry out tests on the quality of foodstuffs, to remove artificial scarcity, syndicate and curtailing.
