KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Saha has expressed his view that health and education should reach the doorsteps of people as a service rather than a business.
He said this while inspecting the Chhetrapati Free clinic on June 11.
A team of representatives from KMC took stock of the construction of a new building of the clinic established in 2013 BS. The team also monitored the services being provided by the clinic.
On the occasion, Mayor Saha interacted with the patients being treated at the clinic. He expressed his pleasure that the hospital is providing better service than he thought.
He has directed the concerned stakeholders of the clinic to guarantee free treatment to the helpless, poor and financially deprived people.
The president of the hospital, Dr Manojman Shrestha said that those who are admitted to the hospital do not have to return without any treatment. He said, "Any Nepali citizen who comes here saying that he does not have money gets free medical treatment."
Mayor Saha said he held discussions with the stakeholders on how the metropolis could cooperate with the clinic run by the community. He said discussions are underway on the issue of whether to provide assistance on annual basis. Mayor Sah expressed his commitment to move forward with the idea that education and health should be the service and that business should not be primary agenda.
The cooperation will be made with those who come up with new plans and suggestions for health and waste management as the metropolis has given the high interest in these. KMC-17 ward chair Nabin Manandhar was also present on the occasion.
