Health Ministry reports 841 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Sunday reported 841 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the Covid 19 count has reached 832,589. Additionally, 326 persons have tested positive for the infection in the antigen test. Likewise, the MoHP has recorded two deaths from Covid 19 in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, the nationwide death toll from Covid 19 has reached 11,604. Presently, there are 6,755 active cases in Nepal. Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have registered 615 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 491 new cases, Lalitpur logged 99 cases and Bhaktapur logged 25 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP. As many as 224 patients of Covid 19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 814,230 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 97.8 per cent while the case fatality rate is at 1.4 per cent. Earlier, the MoHP on Saturday had reported 696 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 831,748. As of Sunday, a total of 4,928,624 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 6,755 persons staying in isolation while 113 others have been placed in quarantine in the country. A total of 45,493 persons got vaccines against COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The increasing number of new cases has aroused the anxiety of many people in the face of the extraordinarily contagious omicron variant. National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) under the Ministry of Health and Population on Friday had detected 24 cases with omicron variant. Meanwhile, more than 304.73 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5.83 million people have died from Covid 19, Covid 19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters.
