BAGMATI: The state-owned Hetauda Cement Factory has halted producing cement due to lack of coal.
According to the management, a tender has already been announced for the supply of coal. The factory has set a plan to import 10,000 metric tonnes of coal in the first and second phases.
Deputy General Manager of Hetauda Cement Factory, Nabin Karna, said the management has been making arrangements to import coal required and the work of producing cement will be continued within a week. According to Karna, the coal will be brought from India, Indonesia, Bhutan and Pakistan.
The state-owned cement factory was brought into operation three months before since it was closed for a long time.
Although the cement factory has the capacity to produce 750 tonnes of cement in a day, it has not been able to produce as per its capacity due to problems in machinery and lack of human resources.
The factory has been bearing losses for the past four years. It was established with the support of the Asian Development Bank in 2033 BS.
