HoR session: Govt urged to present policies and programmes, budget in single document

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party's lawmaker Swarnim Wagle has advised the government to present the policies and programmes, and the budget as an integrated document. Taking part in the deliberations on the government policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2023/24 in a session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, the lawmaker urged the government to compile the policies and programmes, and the budget in a single document. Commenting over the government's new policies and programmes, the lawmaker who is also an economist said, "It, however, is largely a customary document, its good aspects be implemented effectively."  He suggested the government come up with a realistic budget based on its policies and viabilities with good intentions. Lawmaker Dhawal Shumsher JB Rana urged the government to address issues of landless squatters in a permanent way and provide farmers with chemical fertilisers on time while Janata Samajbadi Party's Prakash Adhikari said the policies and programmes failed to prioritise the issues and came as a document of scattered programmes. Similarly, airing views on the policies and programmes earlier, Arjun Narsingh KC of Nepali Congress, said the building of a corruption-free society was the first constitution to promote good governance. Stating that the fresh policies and programmes reflected the government's 'commitments' to good governance, he underlined the need of implanting a zero-tolerance against corruption. The leader urged the government to intervene in unemployment and inflation issues, suggesting the idea of encouraging the youth force to agriculture.
Ruling parties urged not to level allegations CPN (UML) lawmaker Gokul Prasad Baskota urged the ruling parties not to make allegations during the discussion on the government's policies and programmes. He asked the ruling parties to take this matter seriously rather than making allegations against the opposition party. He raised questions over activities of the government carried out so far to take the peace process to a conclusion, urging the government to address farmers' demand for chemical fertiliser on time. Similarly, Hitraj Pandey of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Hitraj Pandey supported the government's policies and programmes for the coming fiscal year, saying it has raised hope among the people. He said the government has forwarded investigations into corruption cases and has given priority to agriculture. The policies and programmes have paved a way for the development of tourism and address people's aspirations, added Pandey. Pandey argued that the policies and programmes have set a target to conclude the remaining task of the peace process by institutionalising federal republicanism as well as has created bases for building a foundation of socialism.
