A A- A+

In conjunction with Hyatt Regency Kathmandu being recognized with the World Travel Award as Nepal’s leading hotel 2016 in a recent event held in Vietnam, Business 360 spoke with Sinead O’Reilly Henell, General Manager of the hotel. The World Travel Awards acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry across the globe. Hyatt Regency Kathmandu has won this honour previously in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013. Excerpts:

What are the parameters for judging in the World Travel Award?
The voting process is online and a year-long communications campaign that encourages global participation. The votes are from qualified executives working within travel and tourism field and the consumer travel buyers. A standard vote carries a weighting of one, while votes cast by verified travel professionals carry a weighting of two. Votes are internally audited to ensure the validity of each individual vote. Thus one can attribute the process to be considered as being voted by your industry colleague and partners who knows the business.

What are the key points that you feel made Hyatt Regency Kathmandu win the award?

I attribute the success to the continued dedication of our associates, love and affection extended  by our guests and partners and the support of our Hyatt™ family.
Considering Nepal is not the easiest place to run business smoothly, what have been the challenges for your hotel since you have been here, and how have you overcome these?
Indeed, during my tenure I have experienced the devastating earthquake of April 2015 followed by the fuel crisis in Q4 of the same year. Though, both the situations were challenging emotionally and physically, we stood firm and determined to provide consistent service to our guests and succeeded.

What is the core philosophy for customer service at Hyatt Regency Kathmandu?
To create an energising environment, be empathetic and listen actively.

What are your key strengths in becoming the preferred brand in Nepal’s hospitality industry?

As a Hyatt “we care for people so they can be their best” and this is followed through to our guests. It is my team’s hard work and continued dedication to deliver quality service to our discerning guests.

Any new developments at the hotel that customers can look forward to in the coming days?

I cannot say anything specific for the coming days, however we are presently working on the refurbishment plan for various parts of the hotel which we look forward to executing from mid-2017.
