India’s support necessary for development of Nepal: Minister Jhakri

KATHMANDU: Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhakri has said India's support is necessary for the development of Nepal's infrastructure. She said the progress made by India in recent years in roads, tunnels, bridges, and urban and transport infrastructure with modern technology is exemplary for us. Addressing a programme 'Preview on EXCON', in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister Jhakri said Nepal's participation in EXCON will be important. Excon is the largest construction equipment and construction technology trade fair in South Asia organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The 11th edition of the fair will be held at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, Bangalore, from May 17 to 31. The programme was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Federation Of Contractors' Associations Of Nepal (FCAN) to invite Nepal to the exhibition. "There is a huge opportunity for investment in infrastructure in Nepal," Minister Jhakri said and suggested India support Nepal for development. On the occasion, FNCCI President Shekhar Golchha stressed the need for cooperation so that Nepal could also benefit from EXCON. He assured that Nepal's private sector would participate in the program. He was of the view that Nepal would take full advantage by participating in the largest construction equipment and construction technology trade fair. As India is Nepal's largest trading partner, it has provided transit facilities to Nepal for trade with third countries, said Golchha and added India's public and private sectors have invested in Nepal. He also urged India to extend further assistance in the infrastructure development of Nepal. Priyadharsini R, First Secretary-Pol & Edu at the Indian Embassy urged Nepal to participate at EXCON and said India would assist Nepal in every development endeavour. It is said, the EXCON will cover an area of ​​300,000 square metres this year. The fair is expected to attract more than 1,000 exhibitors from India and abroad, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the UAE, South Korea, Singapore and Sri Lanka. More than 40,000 visitors from around the world will participate in the five-day exhibition. At the event, Jaideep Shekhar, EXCON's Head of Taskforce on International Promotions and Management Director – Asia & EMEAR, Terex India, informed that the theme of the 11th edition of the trade fair is "Build India for a New World: Competitiveness, Development". Likewise, FNCCI Vice President Dinesh Shrestha and FCAN President Rabi Singh wished for the success of EXCON. He stated private sector wants to use the EXCON exhibition as a supportive economic forum. He also urged the organisers to assist in economic development of Nepal.
