The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal celebrates silver jubilee

KATHMANDU: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) organised various programmes at the central office in Lalitpur to celebrate its silver jubilee, on Monday. Yudh Raj Oli, President of ICAN, inaugurated the silver jubilee anniversary of the organisation by lighting panas, a traditional butter lamp. The ICAN was established in 1997 with the objective of helping in the development and regulation of accounting business in the country. Welcoming all the guests, ICAN President Oli presented the organisation's annual report of 2021/22. In his remarks, he thanked all those who have played an important role in bringing the organisation to this stage and expressed his commitment to move forward following the path shown by the previous leadership. On this occasion, the chief guest of the function, Auditor General Tankamani Sharma, Dangal, released a strategic plan of the organisation. In his congratulatory remarks, he urged the concerned accountants to be diligent in this regard as the role of accountants is important to maintain the economic discipline and financial transparency of the country. Suggesting ICAN as one of the best accounting institutes in the world, Auditor General Sharma also urged to pay attention to the development of skilled manpower required for the accounting business. He also pointed out the need for accountants to focus on maintaining financial transparency and good governance in the country. Mentioning that there are occasional complaints about the accounting business, he also urged to make the accountant responsible for the work. Mentioning that most of the economic activities of the country are now being done through digital technology, he also suggested focusing on maximum use of technology. On the occasion, former president of the organisation Tirth Raj Upadhyay, Vice President Bhaskar Singh Lala, Executive Committee Member Secretary of the organisation, Sanjay Kumar Sinha and others shed light on various aspects of the organisation. In the programme conducted by the director of the organisation Binod Neupane, the annual report and the strategic plan of the organisation were made public and also the souvenirs of the organisation were released. Late Komal Bahadur Chitracar, President of the Interim and First Council of the organisation was posthumously honoured for his outstanding contribution to the establishment, development and activities of the organisation. Employees who have continuously served in this organisation for more than 20 years were awarded long service medals and those who have done excellent work were also honoured. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal is an autonomous and regulatory body established under the Nepal Chartered Accountants Act, 1997 for the development, protection and promotion of the accounting profession in Nepal. This organization has been working under the said Act and the Nepal Chartered Accountants Rules 2061 made under that Act to promote the accounting business, manpower production, and regulating the accounting business in Nepal. So far, the organisation has 1,729 CA members and a total of 7,236 auditor members with B, C and D categories. The institute has so far produced 632 chartered accountants while more than 12,000 students are studying in various fields of chartered accountancy education. READ ALSO:
