‘Job Fair 2023’ at FNCCI Secretariat as a calendar event

KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has organised a two-day 'Job Fair 2023' in Kathmandu. FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal on Tuesday inaugurated the Job Fair 2023 taking place at FNCCI Secretariat, Teku. The job fair is being organised with the support of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and the International Labour Organization and technical assistance from the Employment Service Centre and Merojob. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, FNCCI President Dhakal said that the federation will continue the job fair as a calendar event. He opined that programs like the job fair would help solve the job mismatch problem in the labour market. “There is also a lack of skilled manpower in the market, and the number of people going abroad without finding work is also increasing. So, the federation is focused on addressing this miss match,” President Dhakal said. The private sector which is accounted for making a huge contribution of 81.55% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) also creates employment. He said there were problems in creating jobs and expanding the economy as private sector could not expand due to obstacles in the economy for some time. He opined that the job fair would help fulfil one of five main priorities — the production of skilled manpower and job creation —  put forward by the current leadership of FNCCI. On the occasion, FNCCI Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha said the job fair will work as a bridge between the youths who are looking for work and the industrial companies who are looking for manpower. He opined that the country could make progress only if the youth population were properly mobilised. The fair is being held in cooperation with Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Bhaktapur Municipality, Federation members — Bhaktapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry. At the beginning of the opening programme, FNCCI Vice President (Commodity) Hem Raj Dhakal, informed that 54 companies were participating in the fair. Companies have presented more than 600 job opportunities at the fair. The two-day fair is expected to be visited by around 5,000 pilgrims. He said that the job fair, organised on the initiative of the federation, will be available for the youths and companies looking for work. Shaurbharam Joshi, the National Project Coordinator of the International Labour Organization, expressed his pleasure in organising the fair in collaboration with FNCCI. He suggested prioritising the consumption of domestic products to expand industries, create jobs, and increase investment within the country. Ramchandra Dhakal, National Programme Director of the Prime Minister's Employment Programme and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, said that the fair is an important means of identifying the labour force in Nepal. He said the government also has a policy of providing special support in the promotion of such programmes. At the inauguration ceremony, the Federation's Vice President (Associate) Jyotsna Shrestha,  Treasurer Nirak KC and other members of the Executive Committee, Merojob's Management Director, representatives of Employment Service Centre, Olga Streiestsko ILina of ILO Geneva, Gabrial Boradado of ILO Bank, representatives of member chambers of industries and associations, businesspersons and others were present.
