Kathmandu Mini Maker Faire 2018

A A- A+

On September 22-23, Nepal Communitere, in partnership with Rural Development Initiative (RDI), Maker Valley and Global Innovation Gathering (GIG), hosted the second instalment of Kathmandu Mini Maker Faire (KMMF), the only festival of its kind celebrating innovations in Nepal.

The event was sponsored by DFID Nepal and KGH Group of Hotels and Resorts.

The KMMF is a part of the global Maker Faire movement that started in San Francisco in 2006. The festival has been hosted in major cities around the world including New York, Beijing, Munich, Rome and Washington D.C.

Maker Faire is a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement. The theme of the faire was ‘DESIGN THE FUTURE: Health, Education and Environment’, which stems from the belief that creative solutions for the challenges of the future can come from Nepalis, for the Nepalis through cross-cultural exchanges with the global makers.

KMMF 2018 hosted dynamic guest speakers, from Nepal and the world, who exchanged dialogues about ‘sustainable cities’, ‘future of learning’ and ‘future of high technology in Nepal’ to mention a few. Estimated 3,000 guest for the two day event were treated to a celebration of STEAM learning, arts and creativity, workshop space, maker vendors, expo pieces, a virtual reality booth, drone flying, 3D printing, solar power technologies, smart greenhouses and electric rickshaws among many other attractions.
