Melamchi water arrives in Sundarijal

KATHMANDU: The water fed to the tunnel from Melamchi Drinking Water Project in Helambu Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok district arrived in Kathmandu on Monday. Water fed to the tunnel on April 12 arrived in Sundarijal at about 10:00 pm, according to engineer at consultant company for the project, Bibek Khanal.  It will take three to four days to fill up the storage in Sundarijal, Khanal said. The water was noticed at washing channel on Monday night, which showed that Melamchi water arrived in Sundarijal, he added. The tunnel had been closed since July 15 last year. It has been washed to clear the trashes and debris. The water is now drained into the Bagmati River, which has increased water flow. Local Ram Prasad Pudasaini informed that water flow was increased in the Bagmati River at present. Melamchi River flood had damaged the project structures last year. The reconstruction of the source structure was completed and water inducted last month. After the water level gains height, it will be sent to the processing centre in Sundarijal. Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Umakant Chaudhary was scheduled to visit Sundarijal today, according to spokesperson for Melamchi Drinking Water Project, Rajendra Pant.
