NCC makes recommendation to Industry Minister on promoting exports

KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has submitted a 19-point recommendation to Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu urging him to promote exports through industrial production for the overall development of the business sector. The NCC has made suggestions for self-reliant economy through promotion of agriculture, production of industrial manpower, arrangement for conversion of skills acquired from abroad into productive sector, systematise import and promote export. In a meeting with Industry Minister Badu at Singha Durbar today, NCC President Rajendra Malla said that there was no alternative for the government and the private sector to work together for the development of the economy. Reminding that the private sector has been assisting the government in any situation, President Malla said that he was ready to join hands in the coming days as well. According to Malla, increasing industrial production is the option to get the economy back on track and promote exports. For this, self-reliance campaign in agriculture, export promotion through industrial production, import replacement and the skills of the youth returning from foreign employment should be utilised in the country, said President Malla. "The economy can be revived by transforming the skills learned abroad into productive sectors," he said. Security should be provided for investment in IPO and FPO of the project. ‘ Malla said that the capital that is in the government's coffers and could not be spent for long time should be properly managed for investment for economic development, productivity growth and job creation through commercial banks. The chamber has also drawn the attention of Minister Badu that there should be a policy arrangement to maximise the use of electronic devices to reduce the volume of fuel consumption which has been the main cause of trade deficit in recent times. Similarly, the NCC President urged to set up international standard laboratories at the main customs checkpoints for export promotion. The Chamber has also requested Minister Badu to make arrangements for the shipping companies working for Nepal to register business in Nepal. In response, Minister Badu said that there should be cooperation between the government and the private sector to achieve the common goal of economic prosperity and the development of the country. According to Minister Badu, preparations are being made to address the transportation problem in Kolkata due to shipping companies. The government will cooperate with the private sector for the construction of high-level laboratories and production of skilled manpower in the industry, said Minister Badu. READ ALSO:
