KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is going to operate direct flights to Sydney (Australia), Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Seoul (South Korea).
The national flag carrier has prepared an action plan in this regard, according to NAC Executive Chairman Ubaraj Adhikari informed that
Addressing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between NAC and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) on Thursday, NAC Executive Chairman Adhikari said that some individuals and groups were trying to stop the flights to these three destinations and mentioned that the flights will be extended to these destinations amid all kinds of pressure and influence.
Adhikari said that the NAC will expand the number of international flights and destinations. He mentioned that NAC plans to purchase or acquire aircraft in leas for that purpose and make the service effective.
He stressed NAC’s role in bringing in foreign tourists to Nepal. He pointed out the need for the government to pay attention to the management side of the corporation to make the corporation's services more effective.
Considering the national responsibility, the national flag carrier is in the process of buying three twin otters to fly in remote areas, NAC Commercial Department Director Tanka Nidhi Dahal said and added that there is a plan to expand destinations by adding more aircraft.
NAC collaborates with four private sector organisations
NAC has signed MoUs for cooperation with four different private sector organisations to increase business partnerships.
NAC signed MoUs with NCC, National Business Initiative (NBI) Nepal, Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF) and Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) Koshi Province.
NAC Executive Chairman Adhikari and the president of those organisations separately signed the MoUs on cooperation.
As per the agreement, officials and employees including their family members affiliated with these organisations should travel by NAC flights while travelling. They should also promote NAC in national and international programmes organised by these organisations while the corporation will give a 15% discount on the airfare.
On the occasion, NCC President Rajendra Malla stressed the need to modernise the service of the national flag carrier and expand the destinations.
NBI President Kush Kumar Joshi stressed that the pride and identity of the country should be strengthened by strengthening the NAC branch and making professional services more qualitative and competitive.
NYEF President Kushal Sundar Shrestha and CNI Koshi Province's Anmol Pradhan opined that youth entrepreneurs will play a role in the commercial promotion of the national flag carrier.
NAC Executive Chairman Adhikari expressed his belief that the corporation's business will be promoted with the partnership of the private sector.
